NY Times: Same-Sex Marriage Case, Day 6: Civil Unions

After the lunch recess, Charles J. Cooper continued working his way through a meticulously prepared black binder, to which he continually referred as he cross-examined Professor Lee Badgett on her research methods.

In one such study, which projected how many same-sex marriages that would take place in California over a three-year period in the absence of a ban, Professor Badgett conceded an error in calculations, saying, “I guess it’s a typo.”

Yet Professor Badgett remained resolute that her projections for same-sex marriage conveyed the pressing desire of same-sex couples to be married if allowed by law.
