“We applaud the historic decision today by the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts. The Defense of Marriage Act clearly violates the U.S. Constitution’s guarantee of equal protection under the law. Creating separate classes of people to deny them federal benefits, like DOMA does, is discrimination and it is wrong. Our courts exist to protect Americans’ constitutional rights when they are violated and this decision affirms the equal rights of gays and lesbians.”
