Virginia Marriage Ban Unconstitutional: Plaintiffs, Legal Team React

On Tuesday, February 4, 2014, AFER, led by its incomparable legal team of Ted Olson and David Boies, argued in Federal District Court that laws prohibiting gay and lesbian Virginians from marrying are unconstitutional.

Late Thursday night, February 13, 2014, just hours before Valentine’s Day, Judge Arenda L. Wright Allen ruled that the Virginia Marriage Amendment and laws like it that prohibit same-sex couples from marrying in the Commonwealth violate the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution.
