Star Witness Urges Minnesota Voters to Reject Marriage Ban (Video)

He was called by the anti-marriage proponents of Prop. 8 to support their case. But under cross examination from AFER lead co-counsel David Boies, David Blankenhorn admitted that we would “be more American” on the day gay and lesbian couples are allowed to marry.

Now the star witness for Prop. 8 appears in a new video for Minnesotans United for All Families, urging voters to reject a state ban on marriage for gay and lesbian couples:

“There are powerful reasons to believe that we will be a better society if we include gay and lesbian people and their relationships as full and equal parts of society.”

In June, Blankenhorn recanted his previous views when he wrote an Op/Ed for The New York Times, saying that he changed his mind and that gay and lesbian couples should be allowed to marry:

“…I do believe, with growing numbers of Americans, that the time for denigrating or stigmatizing same-sex relationships is over. Whatever one’s definition of marriage, legally recognizing gay and lesbian couples and their children is a victory for basic fairness.”

During the 2010 Prop. 8 trial, the nation’s truth commission on marriage equality, the proponents of Prop. 8 were unable to prove their case.  Now even their witness is actively working to ensure gay and lesbian couples are treated with equal dignity and respect.
